Anatomy of the Recovering Brain - June 11, 2023
Anatomy of the Recovering Brain is an extended single-movement composition by Frank Horvat for bass clarinet, instrumental cameos, and fixed electronics focused on bringing awareness to the invisible mental health impacts and struggles of having a brain injury. This piece is inspired by the story of bass clarinetist Kathryn Ladano and her recovery journey.
The work brings together many voices of brain injury survivors (including some of BIAWW's own members!) who describe their challenges and successes in overcoming the prolonged debilitating hardships of their brain injuries. The work aims to enlighten and inspire. Commissioned by NUMUS with financial support from the Ontario Arts Council, Region of Waterloo Arts fund, and the Waterloo Region Community Foundation. Proceeds from this concert went to supporting brain injury survivors and their families in Waterloo Region and across Ontario. As a community, we raised just under $8,000! We could not have done this without your support. We are incredibly grateful! |
