COVID-19 Update

In light of the World Health Organization officially declaring the outbreak of COVID-19 virus a pandemic (March 11, 2020) and in particular, the vulnerability of our survivors, caregivers and volunteers, effective immediately, we will be cancelling all BIAWW in-person support meetings, card making/art groups, fundraising events and Committee/Board meetings until further notice.

We will be revisiting the situation on an ongoing basis and will keep you updated with information regarding any change in the status of our decision.

Our in-person support groups are suspended at the moment.
However, we are meeting twice a week for "chats." Please check our
Facebook page for details on how to connect!

Monday Chat 1:00 PM
Friday Chat 9:00 AM

COVID-19 Poem

We understand that the lack of support group engagement and/or sharing in group activities may have a great social impact. We encourage you to keep in contact with friends, family and our organization’s volunteers during this time.

Let us all hope that the COVID-19 virus will be under control in a short time. In the meantime, please perform the following:
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20-30 seconds
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick
  • Avoid areas with large amounts of people
  • Cough or sneeze into your sleeve and not your hands
  • Stay home if you are sick to avoid spreading illness to others
  • If you are concerned that you may have been exposed to, or are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, please contact TELEHEALTH at 1-866-797-0000, your primary care provider (Physician) or your local health unit at https://www.phdapps.health.gov.on.ca/phulocator/

Symptoms and Treatment: range from mild – like the flu and other common respiratory infections, to severe and can include:
  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Pneumonia in both lungs

Complications from the COVID-19 can include serious conditions, like pneumonia or kidney failure, and in some cases, death. There is no specific treatment for COVID-19, and there is currently no vaccine that protects against it. Most people with common human coronavirus illnesses will recover on their own.
We will be in touch very soon with more on our plans going forward. Please be safe!

Regards,
Lynda Abshoff
Executive Director on behalf of the Board of Directors
